Use leading zeros in track numbers?

Wed Mar 01, 2006 7:13 pm
I prefer to use leading zeros in my tracknumber tags, so that they display 01 ... 10. However, I can\'t figure out how to enable this behavior in amaroK. The Playlist window does not show leading zeros, even if I have it saved that way in the ID3 tag, and the built-in ID3 editor won\'t even let me prepend a 0 to the track number.

Is there any way to enable this? Perhaps some simple setting I\'m overlooking? :-) Or is this a by-design limitation?

Thanks.

Has anyone ever looked into this before? I don\'t like to bump just for the sake of bumping, but I still have not had any luck figuring this out myself. Any info would definitely be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am not aware of such a function. Might be an easy thing to patch the source code to get the look you want.Though I have no clue why someone needs track numbers in the playlist...
Anyway, good luck.

Well, you\'re right; formatting the track number display in the playlist isn\'t exactly a feature users would really clamor for. However, when playing an album or group of albums (as opposed to a collection of completely random and/or unsorted music), I find it convenient to list the track numbers. However, it\'s a bit annoying that the track numbers don\'t align properly in amaroK because it doesn\'t support leading zeros.

The bigger problem, however, is with the acctual tagging. I use different media players under different operating systems, as well as on my Palm and dedicated digital audio player. So far, amaroK is the only application I\'ve used on a regular basis that completely refuses to enter track numbers with a leading zero. So, if I rip an album (with leading zeros, of course) and later discover an error in the tag, I cannot edit that tag within amaroK because the tracknumber field would be overwritten.

I know, it sounds like a petty complaint, and for the most part it is. However, consistancy is pretty important to me, and seeing numbers out of alignment or just randomly missing leading zeros bugs the stew out of me. Also, since this seems like such a trivial capability, I don\'t understand why amaroK doesn\'t already support it.

Anyway, thanks for the reply marcel. I\'ll give up looking for now. If any developers read this, though, please consider adding this to future versions.

Thanks.
