amaroK doesn\'t submit to last.fm

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:04 am
Hello,

For the last few weeks, my amaroK doesn\'t seem to submit the listened tracks to last.fm. If I look in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ I have a submit.xml of 85kB, so it does save them for later submission! If I look in statusbar.log.1 I can only see \"[time] Failed to submit \'title\' to last.fm\" without details. So is there a way to find the details about this, why it doesn\'t submit?

Have you entered your username/password details into amaroK correctly?

I just started using amaroK today after a few weeks and it isn\'t submitting mine, either. I know I\'ve seen it to that a couple times when there was some maintenence going on at last.fm, but it\'s been happening for a while you say?

The last.fm submission server is currently down, so that explains why you can\'t submit today.

As for why submissions wouldn\'t work for several weeks, I can only assume a username/password problem.

I have the same problem, since I updated to 1.4 beta 3 amaroK consistently fail to update last.fm.

Hi all,

I\'m having the same problem. I have been using amarok (from apt, using Gstreamer engine) for several months now and it\'s only recently stopped submitting songs.

What I have noticed is that I\'m getting a message telling me that it\'s trying to submit to an IP and failing to reach it. The IP it lists is 62.216.251.205. When I ping that it exists - but when I ping \"last.fm\" it gives an IP of 62.216.251.100

Is it possible that it\'s just an IP config issue? Perhaps last.fm have changed the ip of their submissions system?

In either case I find it bizarre that my system hasn\'t picked up the ip-change (note - I have no idea how this handshake is done... maybe it *is* hard-coded somewhere :P)... or perhaps I need to reboot something? I have restarted amaroK a number of times, just in case - and even reinstalled it (:P I hate doing that on linux), but no joy.

I have re-entered my username/password just in case - I am still able to login to last.fm using these details - so that\'s not the issue :(

Does anyone with way more experience in these matters have any clues as to where I can look next?

Many thanks,
Taryn

Once again, the last.fm submission server is down. Submissions will not work at the moment. Now is not a good time to test whether amaroK is working, because even if it is, last.fm isn\'t.

See: http://www.last.fm/forum/21713/_/51596 for details.

Just to reiterate... in case anyone missed it... the last.fm site is NOT accepting submissions at the moment. ;)

I hadn\'t been able to find anything on the last.fm site about the server being down (admittedly a random google and a bit of a wander around likely-looking areas isn\'t thorough) so thanks for giving a link to the relevant post.

However! I have just had a read of that post and it lists the webserver status as being ONLINE...

in other news, amaroK has stopped complaining about not finding that IP - but it\'s still not submitting... I\'m happy to wait, but given the listing of ONLINE I\'m not sure whether the issue is at my end or theirs any longer...

Thanks,
Taryn

Yes, it says the web server is up - that means you can browse your profile, use forums etc... the only part of last.fm that\'s down is the submission server.

btw, for future reference, if you go to your profile home page, in the header, just under the icons for Users, Music, Radio, Groups, Charts etc, there\'s a site notice, saying \"Notice: Song submissions currently offline, hang tight.\" and a link to that system status page ;)

Ah - yep - oops. Thanks

cool thanks - I admit I didn\'t even notice that - it doesn\'t stand out much - not that that\'s any excuse ;)

Cheers and thanks again,

Just a simple though:

I was having this exactly same problem and was wondering what\'s the problem. The server is apparently down currently, so thats ok, but I was just thinking if you someone could add in the error message something like \"Failed to connecto to [IP], check last.fm to see if the server is down?\". Simple \"failed to connect\" didn\'t explain enough, since there could be multiple reasons to why connection failed, but simple direction to check the status of servers would atleast explain the problem in most cases when users are wondering if the problem is in amaroK or last.fm.

Just my 5 cents... and I think this problem should documented also to amaroK FAQ!

I have a question..  I have been reading on a thread on last.fm about this server problem, and it says that according to the AudioScrobbler spec, you should only upload 10 songs at a time.

Right now I have 200+ queued up because it's been down.  Will it attempt to submit those 200 at once, or will it do them in pieces of 10 at a time?  Because if it does it 200 at a time, it will likely lose 190 of those submissions.

I know that last.fm isn't generally unavailable like this, but it something to keep in mind or fix if it's going to be a problem.  See below for more information.

The specification is very clear that 'If you try to submit more than 10 tracks at once, some of them may not be accepted'. Maybe that's why some people complain about tracks not being recorded ? I suggest that, if the client is submitting more than 10 tracks at a time, you contact the author pointing out the specification page which states this pretty unambiguously http://www.audioscrobbler.net/wiki/Protocol1.1.
