amaroK doesn\'t need to be installed in the $KDEDIR anymore - it\'s now fully relocatable. So it makes sense to install it where the distro prefers :)

it never had to. it only depends on the ./configure parameters.

this is valid for almost every source ;)

no problem with that, as long as this goes in the changelog of the gentoo ebuild, right?

OTOH it would be nice if the helix support would compile again (it used to compile fine in beta2). with beta3 it does not on x86. however, it does on amd64.

well, i am an amaroKer since almost day one, but those gentoo ebuilds really suck.

Beta3c (beta3-R2 on Gentoo) fixes the Helix build issue.

Actually it used to have to be installed in KDEDIR due to a weird issue with the arts plugin and the way splash screen worked.

The amaroK ebuilds are really good.

damned, just realize there is no helix support on amd64 at all, so please ignore that part of my posting.
this is prolly because there is no 64bit plugin available for helix/real?

excuse me to disagree, but the gentoo amaroK ebuilds have never been good, for any version. each of them had to be fixed later on, after many many people complained.
and the complaints were correct, because it worked out nice building amaroK from source.

the KDEDIR has absolutely nothing to do with arts, btw. it is all a matter of using ./configure correctly.

what really would be nice, if someone would come up with an ebuild for amaroK SVN (likewise to the gimp ebuild). this would be highly appreciated. of course it should be hardmasked, though..

man, i am compiling it right now, same version number (r2) and it still compiles

what is going on there??
if r2 didnt compile through, and they do even minor changes, they should call it r3 - no?

It\'s that pesky word "beta" that gets in the way... the whole idea is, that by having beta releases, and people reporting bugs, things get fixed. Why should anyone expect it *right* the first time, when there are so many different configuration combinations? Test at will, and report issues on bugs.gentoo.org for problems with the ebuild, and bugs.kde.org for amarok probs.
