./configure --enable-ipod --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` is successful with the following comments:

How can I enable iPod support? Do I have to download an additional plugin, do I miss a dependency or did I forget to supply an option with the ./configure command?

You need libgpod from gtkpod.org. Then, ipod support should get enabled automatically.
