Hi everyone !
Recently I've been experiencing a lot of difficulties copying music to my 2 GB iPod Nano (Ubuntu Dapper, 32 bits). More than it used to before upgrading to Dapper and the latest Amarok beta it seems. 1) if I copy too many files at once (more than 1 album for instance) I frequently get an error message (in French so it must be an inaccurate translation) saying that some files cannot be copied (for no particular reason) then 2) it usually also says that the iPod database couldn't be saved. Sometimes only the 2) happens (when ejecting the ipod -- as umount is not sufficient). Also I happened to lose my complete iPod DB a couple of times. Had to reinit it with iTunes on another PC (but there must be another way By the way, my libgpod version is : 0.3.2-ubuntu1 Thanks a lot for listening !! |

Sounds like you're in a similar fix to me, except amaroK can't write to my iPod at all (I've started my own thread about it).
I'm using gtkpod until there's a fix - it's horrible and unintuitive, but it does work.

Could you please try copying a couple of hundred MBs of files to your iPod from the command line (with cp) and report if that's working fine? I suspect that somehow your usb connection is flaky.

Hm, it indeed seems not to work properly. I get similar issues (the copy stops after a couple of files). I did reformat it already but I can try again. I try both a PCI USB2 board and the embedded USB controller.
(dapper drake x86) Thanks for replying BTW |

Try dosfsck'ing it, to root out any filesystem problems that might be creeping in.
That sorted it for me. http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/t ... l#msg12592

Well, I already reformatted it under a windows box. Copy works well under windows but I always get the same issues under my Dapper

dosfsck -avtV /dev/sda2 gives me...

Copying tunes under Windows doesn't seem to be a problem though. |

Bummer. If it's fine under Windows, try putting it into Disk Mode and doing a Thorough check with Scandisk.
Could be a problem with your kernel's FAT support...

OK, I'll do this then, thanks
BTW, I usually manage to copy albums w/ amarok, only if I only copy them one by one... Anyway, as I'm still using the beta of Ubuntu Dapper, it may be still a little unstable. |
