If I open an URL which points to some mp3 file I have on my webserver (so that I can listen to music remotely at work without purchasing an ipod, ), amaroK does not reads it tag at all, but if I download the link to a local file then play it, amaroK does the right thing. Is this default behavior or am I missing something?

Hi,
you can't get id3tags over streaming media. Would be nice on Internet radio, too, but doesn't work. This is not an amarok bug. It's not possible. Greetings m0nk

No, I upgraded to a new version (1.3->1.4) of amarok and it does quite well in recognizing artist, title, album, etc. If only it also does lyrics... |

Hi,
you're right and I was wrong. Tried it with gnump3d and it works. So it must depend on the server, 'coz I don't get id3tags on Internet Radio. Greetings m0nk

With actual Internet Radio (like gnump3d) the tags are given via a different means. But if your just playing a file off your web server, you can't read any of the tags.

yes you can. For me, helix/realplay engine fails to do it, but xine engine works. |

Yes, this is true. Xine is able to extract a limited number of tags directly from the audio stream, which newer versions of Amarok read and utilize.
