I've been using various versions of amaroK but the stability only seems to go down faster and faster with every new release. I'm using Debian and there are Always problems with amaroK. Usually a proper version isn't even available for Debian and when there is it conflicts with so many things that it's impossible to install. Right now for example, I've been using 1.3.9 but it crashes multiple times per day on many different things. So I thought I should give the "stable" version from Sarge a try but that has way too many dependency problems so I can't seem to install that.
I was looking for 1.4 on the website but it doesn't have a Debian package in the install section (should have known...). So I clicked on the link that should have brought me to the 'how to install on Debian' or something but it send me straight back to the frontpage. So I tried the FAQ... same story again.. straight back to the frontpage. What is wrong with your site?? Ok, so I tried KLIK.... seemed to download it just fine but when it tried to start it gave me a message that there were no engines installed... and there didn't seem to be klik packages for the amaroK engines either. Next thing... I tried packages from this place which I found in the forums: http://www2.truman.edu/~iam504/amarok/ Guess what: dpkg -i amarok_1.4.20060306-1_i386.deb dpkg-deb: `amarok_1.4.20060306-1_i386.deb' is not a debian format archive dpkg: error processing amarok_1.4.20060306-1_i386.deb (--install): subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: amarok_1.4.20060306-1_i386.deb So I guess the only solution for me to run amaroK is to run that insanely buggy 1.3.9 version again... I'm hoping somebody has any good suggestions where I could actually find a decent version of amaroK that installs and doesn't crash every 2 seconds. I really don't understand why you claim to have such happy users... amaroK is the only program that gives me so much trouble and frustration on Linux. |

I'd suggest you also post this on the debian forum - it's something they really need to address.

Wait, so that amaroK crashes all the time is a problem that Debian needs to address?
And that the amaroK website doesn't work? |

Just pointing out that the amaroK devs aren't the ones who make the Debian packages. Website seems to be fine, if a little slow.

Ok, I was under the impression that the amaroK team was releasing the Debian packages, so I guess I should contact Debian about that indeed.
About the website... the FAQ works now but http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/Debian still shows exactly the same as the front page and doesn't have any Debian specific information. So I still haven't found a way to get a stable amaroK on Debian. Is there a good howto somewhere? |
