Whenever I click on a .mp3 to play it immediatley says playback finished. I'm using Xine and have followed all the tutorials I can find including the one off the F.A.Q section of this site. All help is greatley appreciated!!!

amaroK did the same to me when I first ran it.  The cause turned out to be missing MP3 support "out of the box" in my distro (Ubuntu).  Try checking that your mp3s will play in some other program.  If they won't then you need to (re)install the codec.

After trawling the good old www. a lot of articles suggest I install libxine-extracodecs , but I cant find this in Synaptic Package Manager - should it be in there? Do I need to add an extra repository? Or is there some other location that I need to get it from? Please Help!!!
