Retrieving last.fm password

Sun May 21, 2006 11:50 am
Hello everybody,

when I first tried out Amarok a couple of months ago, I registered with audioscrobbler without providing my email address. I just wanted to try out things etc.

Now I find this very useful - problem is, I never wrote down my password. And without an email in my last.fm profile, I cannot retrieve it via the website. But it is still stored in Amarok, and my profile gets updated regularily.

Is there any way of reading my password from Amarok? I don't know much about the internals of the last.fm function, so it's a little hard to start looking.
I didn't find, or actually expected it to find it unencrypted in some settings file, but maybe I'm wrong?

Other things I tried:
Sniffing it with Ethereal, but I never discovered the actual login procedure, only the submitting of new songs using a session ID.

Putting a simple man-in-the-middle-like PHP script by changing DNS info in /etc/hosts, but there I also just found out about the submitting.

So, maybe it would help if I knew which server is contacted for the login, so that I could sniff the communication. Sure, if its SSL encrypted, I'm probably lost.

And yeah, I know I could just sign up for a new account, but this bugs me somehow, as I didn't lose the password entirly. It's just my PC hiding it from me ;)

I'd be glad if anyone has any advice :-)

(I'm using Amarok 1.3.7 on Kubuntu Breezy)

look in your ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc file
it's listed under the section [Scrobbler]

Thanks so much!
I wasted quite a lot of time on this. Should have posted here earlier...

;) no prob. It's normal for things to be the last place you look - like down the back of the sofa.
