I use 1.4.0-4 Version for Suse 9.3. It starts, can play musik - but it says: "Collection database is created.." This stops at 97%  and I am left with a non existing database. And there is no other application running with amarok in its name any more. If I resart amarok the collection is scanned again, but not saved as well.

This is very disapointing, because without the database amarok is missing most of its functions.

Any help or ideas what to check would be great!

I have the same problem.  Using Amarok (under KDE 3.3.2) on Xandros OCE 3.02.All of my MP3s are playable (at least they did under Amarok 1.3.0 which I upgraded from).  Amarok scans, gets to about 97% as well and nothing shows up in the collection.  All other functions work: carried over play counts and scores.  Even after its finished scanning the MUSIC tabs still has the "Building Collection Database..." message.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

I do not have a real solution for your problem, which was mine, too (SuSE 9.3 running KDE 3.5.2 and amarok 1.4.0-4 from SuSE supplementary).
There seems to be an issue regarding the collection DB. A simple work around is to copy the albumcovers directory to a temp location and delete all of the amarok dir. Run amarok and let it create a new collection DB, exit and copy the albumcovers back into the amarok dir. Done.
However, you will loose you scores and rankings by doing so.
