WMA Streams

Thu May 25, 2006 3:01 pm
Hi,

I enjoy using amaroK to listen to and organise all my music, and find it an amazing music manager so thanks very much for it.

I'm using amaroK 1.4a with the Xine engine using Mandriva Linux. I want to be able to pick up WMA streams so I can listen to internet radio stations, These work in Xine and Kaffeine (I have all the codecs installed), and from http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index. ... Comparison, it says that "yes, we really do mean every format known to man, yes even WMA" is supported, which would suggest that I can listen to WMA streams. When I actually try to play WMA streams though it does not work.

Is this just down to my system not being configured or compiled (I installed using RPMs) properly, or does amaroK not actually support WMA streams?

Many thanks
Michael

Hi,

I'm surprised noboby answers you because I exactly have the same problem as you, but under SUSE Linux 10.1.
I installed Amarok 1.4.0a from Guru and KDE Backports repository but I can't play MMS streams, for example mms://vip8.yacast.fr/encodereurope2  . I use Xine engine from Packman repository. This mms stream works well in kaffeine ou xine (command line). Amarok plays nothing.

Any help here ? It worked well in 1.3.8...

Hi,

I just have the same problem as reported above, and could not find a solution.
I'm using fedora 5 in connection with the livna / kde-redhat repository. This means kde 3.5.3 in connection with amarok 1.4.0 using the xine backend and the required codes installed. the xine player plays my wma stream (mms://213.254.239.66/berlin914$livestream.wma), but amarok does not. grepping the internet connection, the stream gets closed after about 1,5 kb sent by amarok and about 5 kb received by amarok. it connects to port 1755, just as it is happening when using xine-ui.

Anything I am missing?

many thanks,
AZ

I think this is an mms stream problem, not a wma one. I had similar trouble with 1.4.0. One solution was to change the mms://* to http://* and then try to start two or three times. Eventually it would take, but it may not work at all for your particular streams.

In my current version, an SVN build, this problem has been solved (I could listen to both streams listed in this thread without any trouble). I realise this doesn't solve your immediate problem, but the next version out should be fixed.

The WMA streams I want to play are all http, not mms. So there is still a problem with the WMA. Glad to hear it will be fixed, when will the next version be out?
