amaroK ties up my soundcard

Fri May 26, 2006 5:38 pm
OK, I'm not sure if this is an amaroK or a Firefox problem, but I've got to start somewhere.

I use the xine engine, with ALSA output, but amaroK seems to hang onto it after my songs have finished playing, preventing Firefox from producing any sound.  I just tried an experiment, and amaroK also runs through the entire playlist without playing anything if I've got a Flash animation playing in FF at the same time.

I get this error:
Code: Select all
Audio output unavailable; the device is busy.
xine parameters:

According to fuser, however, this is going on:
Code: Select all
nl@splig ~ $ fuser /dev/snd/*
/dev/snd/controlC0:  21290  7805  <kicker + amarokapp>
/dev/snd/controlC1:  21290        <kicker>
/dev/snd/controlC2:  21290        <kicker>
nl@splig ~ $ fuser /dev/sound/*
/dev/sound/dsp:       7653  <firefox-bin>
/dev/sound/mixer:     7653  <firefox-bin>
/dev/sound/mixer1:    7653  <firefox-bin>
/dev/sound/mixer2:    7653  <firefox-bin>

So there shouldn't be any conflict, right?  What's going on?

(If you reply and I don't say anything for a few days, I'm not being rude, I'm just on holiday soon.  Thanks for understanding! )
