Migrating the collection database

Sat Jun 03, 2006 9:37 am
Hey all,

I've been using Amarok 1.4 for a while now but with the recent release of kubuntu 6.06 I'd like to take this opportunity to do a complete format/install of my whole computer. I would however like to keep my collection statistics (play count, rating, etc.) available, so I was wondering if there's something I could backup to keep all that data and import it later. Also, if that is possible, how dependant of paths would such a solution be? Say I have all my songs now in ~/music but on my new install i want it on ~/media/audio/music (or something like that), would it be possible to migrate the statistics along with that?

I hope I was able to make my question clear.. thanks for any help!

You want to back up ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok
and copy it back there after the reinstall.
AFAIK the paths must stay the same. But you could use a symlink to move the actual location of your files to somewhere else.

right, thanks!

Is it also not possible to first restore the music and backup in the original directories and then later move it to another location so that the database gets updated? IS Amarok always dependant on the path it first encountered a song?

It's not really a big problem, but I'd like to get some order in my home directory :)
