I have an apache2 with basic authenification server hosting some mp3s.
So I browse using firefox to the location: http://username:password@hostname/music/xxxxx.mp3 copied the link, and paste it in Add Media dialogue box. The link, however, doesn't play complaining that the server status is not 2xx. Indeed as I check the access.log of the server, the request was slammed with a 401 error because amarok didn't try to login using the specified username. Any fix? --Matt |

This is probably a bug in Xine that I know has been fixed in Gentoo's portage. If you don't use Gentoo, you might have to wait for the next release of Xine (double check that you have the most recent though).

Thank you. I think you are correct. I have another machine with gentoo that doesn't have the same problem. And I am pretty sure it's a problem with xine because it works with helix/realplayer. The problem with the latter for me is that while it plays the music it does not fetch the id3v2 tag (2.4) correctly. Do you know what version of Xine work? Or is it just fixed in gentoo portage, but has not been upstreamed to xine cvs? |

Xine 1.1.2 (to be released soon) will fix the issue. If you need it now, grab xine-lib vom CVS.
