Hello,

I just discovered that I can no longer play audio files in FLAC format within Amarok, and I'm having difficulty fixing the problem. Whenever I attempt to play one of my FLAC files I get the following error message:

Error Loading Media: There is no audio channel!

I'm using xine as the engine, and the FLAC files play fine when I open them directly inside xine. It's only in Amarok that I have the problem. Amarok still plays other formats without trouble. Strangely - and this might be related - gstreamer10 will not work as the engine at all even though i've installed all things gstreamer10. I'm running FC5, FLAC 1.12 and xine 0.99.4.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the current rpm, and I've tried a freshly compiled svn Amarok. I also tried compiling and installing the FLAC codec again, to no avail. I tried one suggestion in another post to change the priority setting for the flac decoder in both the xine and amarok xine configuration files, but that did not help either. I've googled and searched this forum, but unless I just haven't hit the magic combination of keywords, there isn't really a mention of this anywhere. (Apologies, though, if I've just overlooked the answer somewhere. :)  )

A pot of gold to anyone who can help me to get my favorite audio player FLAC-able again! Well, at least a warm thank you - we'll have to split the pot of gold. :)

I was finally able to get Amarok running correctly. I never could get the xine engine to play FLAC files within Amarok, but I was able to get gstreamer running fully as an engine by removing the gstreamer-ffmpeg package. It appears that I still have packages from two different gstreamer releases installed (.08 and .10), but since amarok is working fine I'm not going to touch anything else. :)

Hi,
never touch a running system. But your xine version is very old (recent 1.1.1). This is not intended to use it with amarok, but generally. And you should be able to have gstreamer08 and gstreamer010 installed at the same time.

you need current cvs head xine (or a patched version) for xine to play flac properly in current amaroK svn.

Thanks much for the input, Dieter and Dan. I was wondering why I didn't get any complaints from yum about dependencies while I had the two versions of gstreamer installed, and I'm not sure how I ended up with such an old version of xine. I think my 'fix' was somewhat a fluke then and I bet I'm missing some functionality somewhere that I haven't quite spotted yet. Out of old habit I like to keep things xine-centered for the most part, so I think I'm going to go ahead and see if I can get that running as my amarok engine this weekend.

Thanks again for the clear pointers!

John
