Hey guys, this is the third time I've had this problem (luckily I backup my database occasionally)! Basically, my collection.db file is 0 bytes. Amarok is still open and it will play the currently loaded playlist, but the context bar is empty! If I restart Amarok now it will rescan my entire collection and all stats will be reset. I'm a little more upset this time, because I haven't backed up my collection in over a week (which is something we really shouldn't have to do anyways!) and I don't really want to lose the stats.
Has this been reported before? Anyone else having this trouble? Why would Amarok delete my database? Is there anything I can do with my currently loaded playlist to recover some of the stats? |

So your db disappears *while* amarok is running? I've had this happen very rarely using mysql - but usually it's my fault, or the network share that all my files are on becomes unavailable. There was a bug in a previous svn revision (that I'm fairly sure was never an actual release) where saving any amarok setting changes dumped the db, but that's been fixed for a couple of months. Was there anything particular you were doing when the db disappeared? What's your setup - any remote or removable drives in your collection that may have been disconnected while amarok was running? Cancelling an incremental scan might trash the db too - not sure about this. I'm not aware of any way you can rescue your collection stats from the current playlist though... sorry.

My setup is very simple, with the default database used. All my songs are on one local drive. The problem occured when I maximized Amarok from the "System Tray". It was still playing music, with no errors on screen, just the context view had no info and said "add this track to your collection" - you know that message.
So right now I have a playlist loaded with ratings and scores and playcounts all updated, but the collection.db file is empty. When I went to the Amarok settings the icons were blank squares and it once popped up an error that read something like "Cannot open io_slave. Too many open" or something along those lines. Does that make any sense? Is there anyway to run through the currently loaded playlist and save the ratings? I suppose the XML file doesn't store this info... so it'd have to be something Amarok did - which I'm sure isn't preprogrammed, so this probably won't work. |
