amarok 1.4 collection scan freeze

Sun Jun 18, 2006 2:39 am
i recently upgraded my amarok to 1.4 and that's when i first encountered this problem . 1.3.8 or whatever worked fine.

whenever i open amarok, it begins to scan my collection and always gets hung up at 92%. at that point,  everything gets super slow and my system's resources are low. i can cancel the scan and listen to music other ways (without the collection) and it works fine. i've even tried manually scanning the collection after the program is running and it has the same issue.

i really like amarok other than this and would hate to switch to something else, but i'm losing hope as times goes without reply.

i would appreciate any input. thanks!!

Sounds like a bug in taglib or one of our taglib plugins, freezing on a particular file :(

Check ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection_scan.log, and remove the file listed there from your collection. In fact, if that helps, it would be good to give us acccess to this file, so we can fix the bug.

one thing i should've mentioned is that i'm using gnome.

i've tried looking all over for the file. do you know where it would be with a gnome system (ubuntu)?

i definitely think it's a certain file that's hanging it up though..i appreciate the help!!

it should still be in the same (or similar) place. Maybe ~/.kde3.5/....

if the music file causing the problem isn't too large, it would help if you could post it to the amarok devel mailing list - amarok at kde dot org. Alternatively (better option), post a link to that file.

thank you very much!! i got the problem fixed...i'd post the files that were causing the problems, but when i found them, i realized why they were causing a problem. it's not a bug in amarok by any means..i truly appreciate the responses i received here and i'm ecstatic to be able to use amarok!

any chance you could let us know what the problem was, so we can tell other users what to possibly look for?
