amarok on os x

Mon Jun 19, 2006 11:12 pm
Hello! i just recently installed amarok through fink using the first method mentioned in the page below.

http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/On_OS_X

The compile of all the KDE stuff amarok seemed to go just fine. I had no real problems (it just took a buttload of time) and the installation didn't ever halt or show any problems.

I start amarok through X11 that i installed during os x installation. I have to start X11 through open -a x11(found this method somewhere else, can't really remember) in the terminal. Otherwise X11 wont even find amarok. It says that the command amarok is not found.

So all is fine, and amarok starts with that method. But, i am having several problems with amarok. The first and worst problem is that there are some really random crashes occuring. If i play a song there is a big chance that amarok crashes totally, it wont respond and if i quit X11 and try to start it again amarok wont start. I am using esd as the sound device. There are also several songs in the playlist that have wierd lenghts, like 30 min when the song is 5 min.

I have heard of people who have gotten amarok to play nicely. Though i realise this is an unsupported platform i would really like it if someone could help me with getting amarok to work. Amarok is BY FAR the BEST (Itunes doesn't stand a chance) mp3 player ever and i miss it dearly when i have to sit at an windows comp.

Oh yeah, i just wan't to add my 0.02$. IF and i say IF this program could somehow get ported or in otherway started in an windows based system i think that amarok really would take over the multimedia world. You guys, programmers and everyone else that help, rule. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

/Jonatan
