High there!

first of all: my thanks to all developpers for their greate work on amarok

The feature I need is a typical DJ need:

It would be really greate to be able to lauch amarok 2 times:

Amarok1 is configured to send it's playlist to the audience

Amarok2 is configured to send musik to another soundcard f.e. for prelistening the music

Cause I want to use this together with prokyon3 and it's new "prelisten feature" it would be the easiest to be able to define the hw-channel on the commandline f.e. something like that:

amarok --hw=hw0:0  (audience player)
amarok --hw=hw1:0  (prelisten player on the second soundcard)

I wrote a howto for prokyon3 and it's prelisten feature (see http://prokyon3.sourceforge.net/) and was very unhappy not to be able to use amarok for both players (audíence and prelisten). I read a lot here but I didn't find an alternative method to solve my needs.

Thanks a lot for your comments and - hopefully - a solution

You can start Amarok twice - the trick is to invoke "amarokapp", not "amarok".

Just go to the xine engine settings dialog, and specify the device there. Ultimately there will be config conflicts cause both instances write to the same config, but it should work for this session.

Otherwise you could try to run Amarok in two different user accounts, so they have separate settings.

High Mark,

yes it works temporarely, but -depending which instance you close last - the "new" configuration overwrites the old one. Starting another instance for another user could be an idea, but is hard to realize in the prokyon3 environement.

At my point of view the perfect way to realize my needs (I think a lot of DJ's would agree) would be the specification over commandline- parameter, .like I tried to eplain above. The --engine paramter already available is a first step in that direction. If I could specify the soundcard, and the channel on the given card, all would be perfect.

Do you see a chance to realize my feature request?

Thanks a lot for your comments and help
