WHAT I'VE GOT:

amarok 1.4.0
gnome

BACKGROUND:
i launched amarok as a user, and tried to connect to my ipod, but it gave me an error message: failed to create lockfile

apperantly this has something to do with permissions? (i haven't had this problem with other programs accessing my ipod)

so i launched amarok as root.

i manually mounted my ipod to /mnt/ipod, and amarok autodetected it.

using the media devices dialog, i chose 'apple ipod media device' as the plugin.

PROBLEM:
whenever i try to connect to the ipod, amarok displays the 'configure media device' dialogue, and won't connect
