EDIT: I solved my problem, it had nothing to do with amarok really. Basically it was because when I upgrade to edgy and changed my repositories, I had somehow lost the 'multiverse' repository. So, while I still had libxine-extracodecs installed and could even remove and reinstall it, it wasn't working properly because it was an older version and wasn't getting updated. Adding the repository properly and updating fixed it.
I've searched quite a bit but am not finding a good solution. When I attempt to play an mp3 file, the first time after loading amarok asks "Amarok currently cannot play MP3 files." and give the option to install mp3 support. Clicking install does nothing, however. After that when trying to play further songs, amarok states "Error loading media. No suitable input plugin." Mp3s, however, worked before the upgrade to 1.4.1 and also still work fine in xmms. I'm running Kubuntu Edgy and have libxine-main and libxine-extracodecs installed. I am using amarok-xine as the engine (I believe i'ts the only one anyway). Please let me know if you have any advice or can offer help. Thanks EDIT: so i found what happens when i click install mp3 support, it tries to run the script /usr/lib/amarok/install-mp3 but can't because of permissions. So I tried running the script manually by chaning it to +x access and running but it does nothing (as root or as normal no output at all). The code for the script is below, I see it wants to install libxine-extracodecs but I already have this... Anyway, any help is appreciated.

yes, I'm only using edgy on 1 of my 3 linux machines...
I switched because, as I always do, I get anxious for the new features they will have and I was a bit disappointed with how dapper ran on my laptop. Edgy is amazingly faster than dapper on that machine, don't know why but it is substantial... |
