I have been running amarok for a while now and have been completely without problems.
The otherday, after updating some packages on my system, amarok began giving me the following message at startup: The xine-engine claims it cannot play MP3 files. You may want to choose a different engine from the Configure Dialog, or examine the installation of the multimedia-framework that the current engine uses. You may find useful information in the FAQ section of the Amarok HandBook. Since getting this message, I cannot add any mp3 files to my play list. Interestingly, any files that were already on the list play just fine using the xine-engine, so I think this is a miscomunication between amarok and xine. I'm run gentoo with amarok version 1.4.1-r2 and xine-lib version 1.1.2-r2 I think amarok was just upgraded from 1.4.1-r1 so I will try a downgrade. Any other advice? Thanks Jason |

Dude, emerge xine-lib with the "mad" flag.

Mad flag has been set for a long time on my system, and I just double checked...xine was built with it. Also, like I said, xine seems to be able to play the files just fine...however, it is claiming to amarok that it cannot.
Furthermore, tried downgrading amarok, no success there. I unfortunately cannot downgrade xine-lib as all of the previous versions have been removed due to a security bug. Any other suggestions jason |

Ok, no explanation for this, but I rebooted my computer and the problem resolved. Odd....
