Wed Jul 19, 2006 3:22 am
I tried to compile amarok from source using:
./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` --disable-amazon --without-gstreamer --without-helix --with-xine and this is what i got Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths! I guess that i have ton install the x-devel but i cant find any devel package for x on yum!!! I am using fedora 5 with xine-libs compiled from source too. |

Asking google, it tells me FC5 has a
xorg-x11-proto-devel-7.1-2.1.i386.rpm packet. There are a couple of more packets with devel in it (see e.g. http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/f ... dora/RPMS/). I am not sure about detail, I am not using FC. Does this help? |

I install the xorg-x11-proto-devel and all of its dependencies but some how amarok still can not compile. I got the same error: can not find x included.
Compiling xine-lib as dependencies for amarok also give warning that XFree86-devel or something similar must be installed. However, it's just the warning, xine-lin was compiled. But amarok doesn't. Any other suggestion? Thanks in advance PS: I dont wanna use the recompiled amarok shipped with fedora since it use helix engine only and helix does not have enough codecs to play most of media file i need.

There are all kinds of devel packages for xorg, have you installed all of them?
I am not using FC, so I cannot give you better hints on this, sorry. |

OK, checking the log file, i managed to install all devel packages and compile amarok successfully. Here is the list of packages needed to build amarok, since i'm using fedora without intension to compile anything from source, i must install most of the devel package and some binary package for kde

You can savely remove all the devel packages, they are just needed for comilation. You will needs the libs used by amarok
I checked ./configure --help and there seems to be no option to remove KDE sidebar support. |

The installation instruction says that KDEbase pakage is optional, but when i compile amarok, i got error message asking for KDEbase-devel which will install KDEbase as it dependencies. How can i disable suport for KDEbase? Should i change the prefix--kde --prefix` to something else? One more thing, now i have a working binary amarok file, how can i put it in a rpm package to install other fedora machines so that i dont have to install all the devel package on those computer just to recompile amarok again?

wrong place here to ask for how to make a fedore package. You should find some howtos out there (use your favorite search engine) or find a way to adjust existing packages (which is probably easier).
