Collection Problem in 1.4

Sun Jul 30, 2006 4:20 pm
Hello, everyone,
Here's my problem-- I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 and Amarok 1.4 (though I had this problem a few days ago using 1.3, I figured the upgrade might help).  When I go to browse my collection, I see only a folder called "Various Artists" and under that a handful of compilations (sountracks, etc).  This is ok-- this is my various artists folder.  However, that folder is in a folder called "Music" that has folders for "The Beatles" and then "A Hard Days Night" "Abbey Road" etc.  So even though my collection is set to read my music folder (recursively), and I've hit build collection a million times, only the various artists folder shows up.  Now, when I filter by album and not artist, I see all the albums by all the artists in my collection-- although they are organized alphabetically and there's no trace of the artists.  When I put the filter to artist/album, it goes back to the various artists thing.

Also, I no longer have smart playlists and I can't make them.  So there's no way for me to add my entire collection and shuffle it.

Oh, and when I try to do things like look at Statistics or click on the "context" tab, it says I need to build a collection and that I don't have one.  I don't know what's going on-- it's looney tunes!  I'm sunk without Amarok! :(

My only guess is that maybe my music library is too big-- almost 11,000 tracks.  But I'm sure there are those of you with much bigger collections.

Any help is appreciated!
Luke.

Hey Luke,

Just to confirm... when you go to Conifgure Amarok > Collection > and then browse to your Music folder, is there a black checkmark in the main folder?  Is there an "X" in the box below which says "Scan folders recursively"?

Regards,

Yes, but I fixed it.

Here's what I did for future problems:
1) Logged in as root and deleted my entire Amarok directory.
2) Redownloaded the amarok engines.
3) Ran the "first run wizard"
4) Now it woks perfectly

I'm going to look into that too, it loads my playlist, but instead of playing anything, it just scrolls through the list, and sends info to LastFM.  Also wont play any streams.
