how do I completely remove Amarok SVN

Tue Aug 22, 2006 12:30 pm
Sorry if this is a lame question, but how do I remove the Amarok SVN version that I installed.

It didn't really work for me, and now I'm trying to install the "regular" beta, but it says:

"amarok:    [CollectionDB] Beginning database update
amarok:    [CollectionDB] Different database stats version detected! Stats tabl e will be updated or rebuilt.
amarok:    [CollectionDB] [ERROR!] There is a bug in Amarok: instead of destroy ing your valuable database tables, I'm quitting"

thanks!

Bad luck for you, since Amarok does not support downgrading. I would really recommend to stay with the SVN version, and rather tell us what the problem is.

If you really do want to downgrade, like Mark I'd recommend staying with SVN, the problem isn't that any of the SVN version is staying behind, it's that the database you built with the SVN version is still there. If you used SQL-lite that should be ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection.db I think removing that file should do the trick, though you'll have to rebuild you collection, which means you'll lose all scores and ratings you'd built up. If just getting rid of the collection database doesn't help you'd probably be best of getting rid of the entire ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory as well as the ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc config file. In that case you essentially just start from first run again.

A bit more on running SVN. I've been doing that for a number of months now and I've had no real trouble with it. It's gone wrong once or twice, but that's usually been solved in less than a day. If you got a problem chances are that it has been solved already or will be solved soon. I'm currently using an SVN build some six hours old with no trouble.

thanks a lot for your quick answers. I went back to SVN and now almost everything works like it should - even my Zen Micro gets recognized.

But: Amarok won't scan my library - only two Coldplay songs get listed out of 50 albums. I reconfigured Amarok with mysql support, but that didn't do the trick...

I don't see any error messages - anobody have an idea what's wrong here??

thanks!

SVN up again.  An attempt to fix a problem yesterday ended up making the collection scanner quit early.  It's reverted now.

THANKS!!!

that did it. Everything seems to work, and finally I can use Amarok to manage my Zen Micro - great job, guys!!!

I'm also really taken with this SVN-thingie - just out of curiosity: how often do you suggest to update Amarok this way?

thanks again - support on this forum has really been fast and very good!!!

If you add  http://cia.navi.cx/stats/project/kde/amarok/.rss to your RSS reader, you can keep an eye on the changes that are being made to amarok svn as they happen - this is a handy way to judge when to update, and when to stick with what you have.

dangle is pretty much correct...you may want to avoid anything that looks extremely major for a few days in case things are broken, or avoid updating immediately after any commit message containing warnings like "this might break something..."  :-)  SVN usually works, and occasionally gets quite volatile.  Just make sure that if your stats, etc are very important to you that you're backing up your database somewhat regularly.

thanks again - I will watch the feed and update regularly. Oh, and did I mention that I'm totally blown away by Amarok?
