Flies through songs [SOLVED]

Wed Aug 23, 2006 7:16 pm
Hi,

My amarok keeps flying through the songs I've got on my pc!
The little tag shows but never hear a single tone of the song!

My pc ain't connected to the internet though, so I can't download any updates and have to install them manually,

What could i do to fix this problem?

I've got Kubuntu 6.06

ummm...that is not what he is referring to..."newbie"....what he is troubled with is, not that its is not playing MP3's...but that when loaded, instead of playing the tune, it just skips it with the response "playlist complete"
I am having the same issue.
In the future, understand the question before you jump to conclusions. THAT saves time.
I posted the issue before, but got my **** jumped by an admin for pasting my shell output...again, LOOK before you leap.

well, as c0uchm0nster said... there are many threads on this forum asking the same question... most of them involve the same symptoms, most of them involve distros which don't include mp3 codec by default, and most of the answers can be found in the amarok FAQ.

It is a *known* issue that the major symptom of a distro not supporting mp3 (or other codecs) is amarok skipping through all unplayable tracks in a playlist and finishing successfully.

The amarok team have spent many hours answering the exact same question here, on IRC and via email and mailing lists, so before denigrating a reply, why not let the original poster try it for themselves?

Have you read the FAQ? How do you know this isn't the answer to your problem too?

I have indeed read the FAQ
I am not new to forums, as I belong to many.  I am aware of the whole "RTFM" thing, and make every effort to avoid looking stupid when I can.
Ironically, you are the one I mentioned in my last post.
I love Amarok, and when I first installed Ubuntu, it was there, and worked fantastic....however, after a few distro based upgrades, the thing does not work anymore.  I have Mp3 ability, and use it in the lesser app known as MusicBox.  I have installed all applicable SQL's, and everything else imaginable, but when I select a song to play, It  merely "breezes" through the file and pops up "Playlist Complete".
The only output I get is this, and not being a Linux genius, I rely heavily on forums to reach solutions.  I also paste my successes when they happen, as I am wanting more people to feel happy with choosing Linux.

Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168
  Major opcode:  145
  Minor opcode:  3
  Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.

That is the info I have, and really dont have anymore supporting data to provide, save that I am using the current distro of Ubuntu Dapper/Gnome

Sorry hon, I just read back through your entire 5 posts, and the ONLY clue I can come up with (from your highly informative posts which include all details about your various versions, system configuration and settings, as well as various techniques you've tried to fix your problem) is that you don't give enough information to help anyone help you.

Seriously, versions of amarok dependencies such as taglib, xine etc would be helpful in tracking down your problem.
Also, the exact version of amarok, and where you got it from.

God might help those who help themselves... but for us to help you, you have to give.

ok....again, I dont know anything above and beyond being a user....I dont know what all etc is
But I can see where you are going with this.
I just wont use Amarok
I am not a "hun"
I dont believe in God
and I really dont think that a program that works fine after initial install, just **** out when the OS is updated.
In conclusion...I dont have work to do.....YOU all have work to do.

taglib is 1.4
xine is 2:1.4.1
and again, I dont know what all comprises "etc"
MY distro is the latest Ubuntu

Make sure you have xinelibs 1.1.2 installed, plus xine-extra-codecs from the repo mentioned in the FAQ (linked several posts back)- ubuntu/kubuntu has changed the way they package xine, so in order to play proprietary codecs, you MUST have this package installed..

See? when you give specific info, you GET specific info.

I get as specific in detail as I know how to be.
Now, I will post all of your advice and solutions to the Ubuntu forums, so they can pass the info to the developers.
I am now listening to Dusturbed, with Amarok 1.4.
I thank you for your help and prodding.
*you love me, you know it*

ironically, if you'd followed the original advice, and RTFM, you could have solved your problems without crying about it.
