fish:// protocol: which engine

Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:34 am
Hi!

I can browse and add files using the fish:// protocol. The only engine I've installed is the xine engine. I just cannot play the songs, probably because xine and kio live in two different worlds. Fine. which engine would you recommend? Is it at all possible to add more engines?

Marcus.

Debian/unstable -- probably more stable than any commercial Linux.

None of our engines handles KIO playback.

Is there any hope that one of the engines will support KIO playback again in the near future?

Not really, since KIO is unsuitable for multimedia needs. It does neither support seeking, nor metadata.

Well, there's NFS, there's FUSE. Both are much better options.
