I've been trying to build Amarok 1.4.2 using Xubuntu here and have used ./configure --without-arts --with-mp4v2 --disable-debug --prefix=/usr/local/kde
Configure runs clean but on make, it errors out:

did you read the error?
if yes -> http://packages.ubuntu.com/ there you can search packages and it's content if not -> go ahead and RTFE special notes: you can drop the without arts as we don't support that thing anyway, and installing into /usr/local/kde _could_ (might or might not) cause problems - which actually means I wouldn't do that

actually, --without-arts IS required if you don't have kdelibs compiled with arts support. compilation will fail if this flag is not present. It's relating to kde's arts support, not the arts engine.

I'm back and well, I've tried building using amarok-svn and I still get the same error. It relates to khtml libs but I have kdelibs and kdelibs-dev installed through Synaptic which does not make any sense.

I got it to work. Yay for me. Specify in ./configure --with-extra-includes=/usr/include/kde and it works!
