I've been trying since early this morning to get amarok compiled, to no avail. I've downloaded the tarball two or three times, but I never know exactly which directory it's supposed to be extracted to, and all the installation howtos online are quite vague. It might also be worth adding that I'm very new to Linux (I've been running Ubuntu 6.06 since yesterday).

Don't compile from source. Follow the directions from http://www.imbrandon.com/2006/08/23/get ... -released/ and apt-get install amarok.

I discovered in the course of trying to install it that the program was also listed in the Ubuntu Add/Remove Program feature.
