This message keeps appearing in my statusbar.log (... is each song name.)
My password is definitely correct. Last.fm's submission server is up. I am using Amarok 1.4.2, KDE 3.5.2 build date 27/08/06. Should there be buttons somewhere to tell last.fm which tracks I like and dislike? Searching the forums I found loads of threads about this, none with a solution, and all quite old. I'm running Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. All of my packages are up to date, to my knowledge. Thanks in advance for any solution. - Pete |

Okay, so not even necessarily a solution. Any IDEAS? stuff I can try?

This can't be a hard question to answer? Does NOBODY use the last.fm feature?

Well I use the last.fm feature and it works for me... at least when amarok is working.
There are no buttons; it just submits the tracks that you play (or fails to submit them in your case) - plain old scrobbling. I don't know why it isn't submitting them - have you checked you don't have a proxy server or anything else between you and Last.fm? Firewall settings? Now if you can tell me why amarok has suddenly refused to start for me... |

Well then how are you supposed to tell last.fm what music you do/don't like? Or does it just go by what is played?
There is nothing between me and last.fm that could be stopping this from working to my knowledge, unless Amarok does something very strange that no other internet app I'm using does. - Pete |

dunno - maybe you could try removing the file ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/submit.xml (or backing it up) and starting afresh.
Check last.fm forums for specific info on submission problems. There are no buttons for love/hate/ban etc when you're playing the music in your collection... if you don't like something, don't play it, or skip to the next track early in the track. A song is not added to the last.fm submit queue until it's had at least the first 2:40 played. This is exactly according to the last.fm protocol. Perhaps you're getting confused with last.fm radio? There are buttons to do what you want if you play music streamed FROM last.fm.

Removing the file made no difference.
It still won't submit anything and just doesn't give any reason why. Also I could have sworn I saw a screenshot with 'love/hate/ban' buttons in Amarok. - Pete |

I'm sure you did see them... as I said, if you're actually playing a last.fm radio stream, those buttons appear.
Have you checked the last.fm forums?

I've looked all over these forums and found very little, but it could be that I wasn't searching very effectively.

just to confirm, I'm talking about http://www.last.fm/forums
Apologies if that's where you meant you'd looked. Other trouble-shooting techniques - note these will depend on your skill level and/or patience level. * you could try deleting/backing up ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc as a last resort. You'll need to fill in all your config settings again. * you could try compiling amarok yourself, with the --enable-debug=full configure parameter, running amarok from a console, then watching the debug output when you submit a track. * check the http://last.fm site for details of which types of tags are not accepted for submission. * create a new temp account and test-submit some tracks to it.

Finally, some useful avenues of testing.
I will take a look later. I had also looked on last.fm's forums and found very little of use. - Pete |
