I'm a relative newbie who just installed 1.4.2 on Kubuntu dapper. I read that kde zeroconf exists but with no backend, so I installed Avahi and mdns-scan and started a share with the Public File Server applet to test things out.
Instructions here: http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3618026 mdns-scan returns the list of itunes DAAP servers on my subnet, and typing "zeroconf:/" into konqueror finds my local test-share. I followed these directions http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Music_Sharing in Amarok to connect to my DAAP servers but it does nothing when I hit "connect" I tried copy-and-pasting the addresses from mdns-scan (ie: name-of-daap-share._daap._tcp.local) into Amarok's "connect" dialog but it just inserts a few unplayable tracks called "from" into my playlist. I'm hoping it's something dumb that I'm doing because I didn't see others with this problem when I searched the forum. Thanks for any advice. |

There's no zeroconf support in 1.4.2, simply give it the IP address.

But I thought Amarok supported Zeroconf after 1.4.1? I must be misunderstanding this wiki page: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Music_Sharing Regardless, I get the same behavior when I provide the IP of my DAAP server in the connect dialog. It just adds a song called "from". Strange. |

For the record, I am having literally exactly the same problem but with Amarok 1.4.3 and Kubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft).
I did all of the steps that zpoff did with exactly the same results: -made a public file server that I could see in Konqueror -installed mdns-scan and can see the itunes daap server on my windows machine -did the shared music setup in amarok -put in the ip and no luck... UPDATE: upgraded to 1.4.4 and had the same problem. When I click on the "from" track I get the "error loading media" window that says no suitable plugin could be found.
