I'm running Kubuntu Dapper Drake and Amarok 1.4.3.

When I try to build my music collection, consisting of many (non-DRM) aac files, my computer freezes after a while. The progress bar stops, and the computer gets slower and slower until it freezes totally.

My music is organized alphabetically, and I tried to work around the problem by only adding some of the folders at a time. It didn't help, but it made me suspect that the problem is in some way related to the number of songs I have added.

I added folders A-R successfully. When I tried to add another folder S or T or U or V (you get the picture) it froze. Then I tried to remove all folders from my collection and instead add F-Z, which also worked well. When I tried to add some from A-G the computer froze again.
