hello!
i have some problems with the cover-management. first the facts: all my music-files are stored an my server and accessed via nfs/samba from amarok/itunes. for covers i prefer the itunes way, because then the covers are accessible for all users/os/ipods. but when i add a cover with itunes amarok won't show it! i can rescan my collection or empty my collection and readd the items. the cover stays empty. server: gentoo linux amd32 amarok clients: gentoo linux amd64, kde 3.5.2, gcc 4.1.1, amarok 1.4.3. has there some internal metadata to be cleared? because i noticed that even after emptying and readding my complete collection the song-stats were still the old ones. any help is welcome! thanks in advance, andy

I'm not really an expert in this case but I believe what you're doing is possible but not currently supported. If you want I-tunes covers to show up in amarok I think the only way that could happen would be if itunes copied that cover to the directory that stores the said covers album in png format. If a png graphic file is in the directory I'm pretty sure amarok will pick it up automatically. Otherwise I beleive the amarok covers are stored in a cache in /home/yourname/.kde/apps/cache (or thereabouts). These have no name and are automatically deleted after a set amount of time if retrieved from amazon using the cover manager or when your database is removed. There is an amarok script called copycover on the amarok site that works with the previous versions of amarok (the versions without the new collection scanner). If you have your covers set right, it will copy all the images to the correct directories and pick them up automatically. Perhaps itunes can read those.

Can you explain what "the itunes way" is? Do you mean embedding the image in the file's metadata?

with 'the itunes way' i mean that embedded covers show up in every application that supports covers embedded in the way that itunes does that. when i embedded a cover with itunes on my computer the image showed up on my kids pc as well as on my wifes mac (the files are stored on a server). whoever put the files on her/his ipod the covers were there.
initially amarok displayed all the covers correct, but i noticed that no one else could see the covers that i added with amarok, not even when logged on to my pc with their account. so i searched and found the covers in my .kde/share/apps/amarok/albumcovers folder. then i copied the covers away, removed all new covers in amarok and added them using itunes. now the covers are there for everyone except for me using amarok. when i convert new cds with itunes (with cover) the files will show up in amarok with cover (after a rescan) but later with itunes added covers for existing files will not and covers added with amarok will only show up for the specific user. is there a way to embed the covers in the metadata with amarok? (if that is what itunes does) |
