Network audio

Wed Oct 25, 2006 11:27 am
Hi folks,

This isn't an amarok question, but I figured someone might have similar requirements and might have found a solution.

I have a pile of music on my laptop which I listen to on the go... I also want to listen to it with some actual quality on the speakers which are attached to my desktop. I have nasd on the desktop and mplayer has a nas plugin which works nicely. However, I'd much rather be able to use amarok rather than mpg123/flac123/ogg123 for my music!

Does anyone know of a nas plugin for xine, a plugin for alsa to capture pcm input and redirect it across the network or any other way to get music playing in amarok on my remote speakers? (A long piece of cable is not an option!)

Thanks
Bruce

If you are game, there's an NMM engine for amarok (only in SVN) that's very much undertested and underdeveloped, but has been known to work for some people...

I think you'd be pretty much on your own though, trying to get it going - not sure whether anyone successfully uses it or not. Maybe they'll come out of the woodwork and post here if they do ;)
