Problems building collection with Suse 10.1 Remaster

I was previously using Amarok with PCLOS and recently switched to Suse. I have a 3k song .flac collection stored on a SAMBA drive, which I have mounted in my /home directory.

I can play tracks and I can read tracks find, the problem is building the collection. It worked fine in PCLOS with the same setup. Under Suse it gives me an error about a few tracks. If I delete those tracks I get errors about different tracks. None of the songs end up getting added to the collection.

I'm using amarok 1.4.3-101 from guru's site with the Xine engine. KDE 3.5.5. I have tried it with Gstreamer, older versions, helix, everything. It all does the same thing. It plays all the tracks fine, but can't build the collection.

I have found numerous other posts similar to this (especially with Suse), but I can't find a solution out there anywhere.

Anyone care to help me out here?

Thanks, I had missed that page on the wiki. I made the changes mentioned, and the folder is now owned by myself, but I still get the same problems. It gets to 82 percent and then gives errors.

Question is whether your problems are related to Samba, or not. For testing purposes, try to copy your whole collection to a local filesystem and scan it there. If that doesn't work either, check if you have any (copy protected) MP4 files in the collection. There is a bug in 1.4.3 that can lead to problems with MP4.

Doesn't work on the local directory either. On the local directory it will go to 100% (I don't have space for all the flac files locally) but it still doesn't actually build the collection. It does complain about some non-flac files (par2, jpeg's, etc). I have no mp4's. They are all FLAC. I even ran them all through the flac verifier and deleted any with errors.

I had the same problem with Mandriva 2006 and Amarok 1.4.3, after three hours with some amarok guys on IRC we were not able to find a solution. I have upgraded to Mandriva 2006 and it is still not working. I had no problem at all with my previous version of Amarok (1.4.1).

This drives me mad. I will try to isolate the problem with a limited subset of files and post here all the details so that we can discuss more into details. This might be a bug

With 1.4.4 it will finish the building. Still doesn't add anything, but the process finishes.

All that fooling around and all I needed to do was clear out my .kde/apps/share/amarok directory.
