Hi all

I have a Huge collection (70,000 mp3) and i have been using amarok for quite a while. I do however use my files with other players (my Pocket PC player, windows player for my HTPC-Jriver...etc) in all windows and Pocket PC players the tags work great and i cann add/change them with ease. Yet i have noticed that when i do any tag changes in amarok at all Amarok ruins the files!!!! it happaned once a month ago and i had to go back and tag all my files again (70,000!!!) which took me 5 days! i then switched to mysql thinking it may help but then again amarok ruined another 1000 files when i tried to add a comment to them! it removed all Covers stored inside the tags and removed the genere field etc...
I Love amarok and really want to keep using it but i just cant risk again losing all my tags stored inside the MP3 files. Can someone PLEASE help me here?

thx alot in advance

Amarok does not ruin any files. For Mp3, it always writes the latest ID3 tag version, which is 2.4. Some other programs/players can only handle the outdated ID3V2.3 specification, but not 2.4. This explains why they are unable to read tags written by Amarok.

Thx for the answer

I still dont understand why then does amarok remove the covers stored inside the tags, the lyrics and other info (and why it dosent support it all for that matter-Covers,lyrics etc..)  :confused:.  So what shall i do now? i have spent weeks upon weeks tagging all my files (in id3 v 2.3 i suppose now), how can amarok not erase the 2.3 data? is there some kind of a converter?

thx again in adavnce

i just had the same experience with amarok2. disconnected my harddrive while amarok was still running (but not playing) and after I put it back on again ALL tags and covers from the media in the playlist were ERASED. this also counts for the implemented length and size of the file!
It is really really weird and I will maybe switch to another player now. amarok2 seems to be a bit unstable for that matter

@Zeltak
Don't tag from within Amarok. Use an external tagger such as easytag or kid3, where you can decide which version of id3 to use. Tagging mostly didn't work in 1.4 and doesn't in 2 (at least for me 'til now).

@king.flasher.dave
You're using amarok 2 prior to 2.1 (2.0.2?), which corrupted the database (NOT YOUR TAGS!), if an external drive holding the tracks wasn't connected on amarok start up.
Rescan should solve that, although I would update to latest.

@Mark
Don't agree, that id3 v2.3 is outdated. In Amarok 1.4 I've tried tagging with v2.4 and embedded covers, which causes amarok to show up noise instead of covers. And there are a lot of players and apps, which rely on v2.3 out there.
