Hi all,

I'm new to Ubuntu, but not to Linux at all.  I'm runny latest EdgyEft, added and upgraded to Amarok 1.4.4.

I'm baffled to why Amarok can't play audio CD's.  I select File --> Play Audio Cd's, all I get is "Can't read AudioCD" in the lower left hand corner.

The default mount point in settings is "/dev/cdrom" - I also tried /media/cdrom0, but still nothing.

Every other player I have, sound juicer, banshee, rhythmbox, xmms, whatever plays audio CD's without issue.... in fact I don't even have to configure it nor would I think I should have to.

Any one have suggestions??  Thanks... I've been wanting to try Amarok, Ubuntu... but this one thing of not being able to read CD's is killing me.

Thanks you!

BTW - I'm using the xine engine, but that shouldn't matter right?  I mean its an audio CD.

Thanks

you'll need the kde kioslaves installed, as well as multimedia-kioslaves. not sure particularly what they're called on your distro. Amarok uses audiocd:/ iirc.

Sorry, that's incorrect. The ioslaves are not needed.

hmmm yeah that didn't seem to help.  So Mark, anyone, other suggestions?  Should the mount point for audio cds under Amarok --> settings --> engines be "/dev/cdrom" or what?

Well, I installed ioslave stuff, kdemultimedia and dependecies, konqueror (there were some threads relating this to audiocd issues)... but still doesn't work.  Think I'll go back to Rhythmbox.

Its funny, all this hype about amarok and I have yet to get it to work right for basic things on Suse, Ubuntu or Fedora, using 1.4.3, 1.4.4...

Oops! Oh well, they work for me ;)
