Music on Samba shares?

Sun Nov 12, 2006 5:06 pm
I've got a massive music collection on samba shares but I can't get Amarok to import it into my collection.  I've got the share mounted to /music .  I can browse to the folders in amarok, I have /music checked in the folder-browser, but nothing happens.  when I copy the files to a local drive everything imports fine, but I can't do that with all 150Gigs...  am I doing something wrong?

thanks,

Apparently the problem was how I was mounting my Samba shares.  I found the answer in the wiki (I didn't even know there was a wiki! http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Samba):
Code: Select all
mount -t smbfs -o fmask=444,dmask=555,guest //server/share /path/to/mount-point

Since this seems to be a common problem maybe the "Build Collection" dialogs should mention that samba shares need to be mounted in a particular way, or even include a link to the wiki...
