I have tried to systematically reinstall Amarok with the mp3 support to xmms as the first thing. I read an FAQ which said that if Amarok is built first before the mp3 support has been built it will not see mp3 support. My install is working great with flac, ogg, wav but I receive the no mp3 popup when trying to play a file which is mp3.
Working at the problem, I then uninstalled amarok AND xmms. I then reinstalled xmms adding each plug in (flac, ogg, etc) one at a time ... followed by Amarok -- I then logged out of x and logged back in. Amarok still plays everything except the mp3's. xmms does not play mp3's either. Any ideas? TIA Dave |

I see that the libs indicate they are for FC3 with nothing more recent. Does this mean that mp3 support is not being maintained? Or that the FC3 version is still OK/ Any ideas? |

Not sure wtf xmms-mp3 has to do with Amarok, but this is a fedora problem, not an Amarok one, ask there.

Well, Amarok uses xmms for the engine, amongst other possibilities. So, I thought that since my xmms engine works fine by itself, but not with Amarok, perhaps there may be a problem with the build of Amarok. As I said earlier, Amarok evidently doesn't see the mp3 library additions if Amarok is built after those libraries and xmms. This is why I went through the process of building xmms, and then Amarok. |

Actually, no. No it doesn't. The ONLY reason there's even a mention of xmms anywhere to do with amarok is because amarok can use xmms visualisations.
Are you sure you're not getting xmms confused with xine? If this is the case, check for packages like xine-extracodecs or similar.
