Hi all

After testing it alot i am now 100% sure amarok deletes my internal covers when i edit ID3 tags. I have verified it both with 4 windows based programs and Easy tag in Linux! the problem occurs when i edit a mp3 file (with a image inside the file), no mater what editing you do (even just change a name or add comment) amaroks tag editing deletes the internal cover! i have worked Sooo hard on adding internal covers to my 50,000 MP3 files and i dont want to lose it again. I love amarok and i really dont see any alternative in linux (i really tried all other players...they really dont come close). i really need a great media player for linux and right now i have to use Jriver media player through VMWARE!!!! just to listen to music because im afraid of loosing my tags! I hope it dosent happen only in my computer and if it does im willing to help fix it anyway i can (i dont know any programing though and im pretty new to linux). Ive posted about this a while back but didnt get much response i really would appreciate any help i can get here guys ,without a good media player in Linux i really will break down soon and have to go back to that other OS..yuck...

thx alot in advance

Ive just noticed in both easy tag and the windows tagging program Tag and rename that amarok completly wiped out all ID3v2 tags and left only ID3v1 tags after i took some test files and only added the letter "1" to the comment field also deleting the image inside the files as well!

Amarok does NOT delete any of your tags. Here's what really happens: Amarok writes ID3 V2.4 tags, which some other players can't read, due to outdated tagging libraries. These players can only process ID3 V2.3., hence they don't see the 2.4 tags.

thx for the answer Mark!
I appreciate it.  Just to want to make clear that I love amarok and really appreciate all your awesome work, this is by no mean a complaint just a way to find a solution! do you know then of a player capable of reading the new ID3 v2.4 tags so i can test it out and make sure (sorry for being a nag but i really want to make sure of it since i do have a huge collection) and put my worries to an end?

thx again

ok I can confirm that it does not delete my tags YAY!!

Now i can go back to using Amarok Fulltime.
After doing some research today on ID3 V2  tags i said to myself..Wow...this ID3 thing is getting confusing....is this a blue ray Vs H-DVD thing...  :wink i really cant understand why there are so many formats to mp3 idv2..

Anyway, one related question...why dosent amarok use the built in cover? i wanted to ask the same about the built in lyrics but saw to day that someone made a plugin for that:

Thx again

it uses embedded images here. Perhaps you have a cached copy of another cover associated with your albums?

Try deleting/backing up ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/albumcovers and rescanning your collection. That should refresh the image cache. Of course it will also mean any covers you've fetched from amazon will be gone :)

Alternatively, you could browse that dir in a gui file manager, and delete any covers you find that shouldn't be there.
