Hey folks,
I really like Amarok - it's a good blend of XMMS and gtkpod. Strangely, even though I've previously been able to transfer new music to my ipod mini w/ Amarok, as of recently it gets corrupted. Specifically, if I transfer a track (and I've tried older rips just in case it's the encoder) it will complete as if normal and show-up in the database of the ipod, but the file isn't playable. If I go Repair --> Find Orphans, all newly transferred tracks are listed as such. Is this Amarok or the ipod? If it's the ipod is there a way to repair the database using Amarok? Cheers. (p.s. running Kubuntu Edgy)

I had a similar problem, and actually reported a bug, but it turns out to be an incompatible version of
libgpod. Rebuilding amarok from source using amarok-svn fixed the problem. The other alternative would be to check that libgpod has not been upgraded beyond the version that amarok was compiled with. See http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/topic,13352.msg16359.html#msg16359 Maybe somebody should make a sticky thread or something for this problem.

Thanks for the tip. I had too many problems trying to install amarok-svn unfortunately (complaining about unsermake and/or automake issues). After twenty minutes of that I decided to check the version of libgpod I had, and indeed it was beyond the current Kubuntu Edgy version - I rolled it back and now Amarok is fine.

[me=dangle_wtf]rubs the magic sticky genie lamp[/me] *done* To summarise, if your ipod stops working, and all you did was upgrade libgpod, roll it back to whichever version amarok was compiled with, or compile amarok yourself against the newer version.

Hi! i have an iPod classic bought last week and i have updated the http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Media_Device:IPod page. If the problem persists, add the Firewire Guid stuff into your player.

I see videos there in my collection that I loaded with gtkpod... I like that they are now in the "Video" and "Music Video" sections of the Ipod.
If I try this via Amarok, where will the vids show up? |

if the above condition affects you, downgrade libgpod.

thanks... but how do I do that?

The method will vary greatly depending on your distro - for specifics, you shouldd probably start another thread (with details of the exact problem - it's possible you might not have to do this!)
Generally though, the same tool you used to upgrade libgpod should have the facility to downgrade packages as well.
