I hook up my Toshiba Gigabeat F10 to my Ubuntu Dapper computer and Amarok can't see it. I've already installed libmtp and libusb and added everything to the libmtp.rules and all of that good stuff but it still won't work. Any help would be great. thanks.

As far as I know, the (K)ubuntu packages do not include MTP support and you need to compile from source. Quick way to check is to try and a device. If MTP does not appear as an option in the plugin dropdown, you need to recompile Amarok. |

ok hold up.
i just updated amarok and now MTPDevice is in the dropdown menu so I choose that. But where do i mount it?? Ubuntu doesn't see it as a disk but if i go to /dev/bus/usb/001 there are 2 different things in there that disappear when i unplug the gigabeat. |

you shouldn't need to mount it - just give it a name. Then you should be able to connect to the device on the "Media Devices" browser.

if i try autodetect device it just gives me that weird mesage that looks like this:
No new media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in a Konsole window But if I try that it tells me: call failed Now, I tried also adding the device and just leaving the mount field blank and then I hit connect and it locks up for a minute or so and then tells me could not connect to MTP device. mtp-detect gives me all sorts of good info on my gigabeat though so it's working but mtp-detect only can access it once in a while. |

Depends what version of Amarok you're using. 1.4.4 allows you to copy to your Amarok collection. It also contains fixes to reduce the memory usage when connecting to the MTP player. |

is there a super simple konsole command i can type in and get 1.4.4??
because that'd be great. but i can handle tars too so whatever is available, i'll do. |
