available space not correct in Amarok

Mon Dec 25, 2006 10:36 pm
Hi all,

Hope someone here can help me with a big problem I'm caused myself recently.

I use Media Monkey at work (WinXP application for playing music, a la iTunes).

Well, I thought I was deleting a playlist, but I apparently deleted ALL my content. ARGHH!!

Today I hooked up to Amarok for the first time since using Media Monkey, but it tells me I only have about 21Mb free on my 1Gb ipod. What's up with that? I checked and all trash folders are emptied that I can tell and I've got this set to have hidden files not hidden.

Tried unmounting and remounting the Ipod, but that didn't help either.

Is there a file in Amarok that I need to delete to get it to properly read my iPod, or do I need to vaporize it and start from scratch.

Also using Rockbox firmware, to add another cook in the kitchen. :-)

Just a quick update. I logged into Media Monkey at work today and it tells me I have 800Mb+ available!!

So what's the setting in Amarok I need to fix?

Make sure that your ipod is mounted and run 'df' on a command line. Look at the output referring to your ipod partition and compare the value with the value reported by Amarok. If they both agree, then your operating system is at fault. Otherwise it's Amarok and we will have to investigate further.

Well, here are the stats:

at work (WinXP Pro)
114Mb used (119631872 bytes)
778Mb free (816201728 bytes)

at home (Ubuntu Linux 6.06.10)
df command says:
/dev/sda2              913900    913896        4 100% /media/ipod

In Amarok 1.4.5 it says:
4kb of 892.5 MB available

All the files that make up the 114Mb reported as used at work are visible within Amarok.

So following what you said, the OS is at fault. The perplexing thing is that I've used my iPod on both work and home machines for several months with no issues. Only after I deleted some songs/podcasts through Media Monkey did I run into this problem. Both Media Monkey and Apple iTunes software supports the work stats above.

Thoughts?

Robert
