I have a windows partiton mouted on my desktop PC and shared wirelessly over samba. I can access the music just fine, however, when amarok goes to play it, I get an error that says that no suitable input plugin was found, and that the protocol is not supported.  This is an example of what i'm trying to play:

smb://jacobdesktop/Windows Share/My Music/Maynard Ferguson - MacArthur Park.mp3

Any ideas?

Try to mount the partition using the cifs file system. More info should be available here: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Samba

No luck.

In attempt to see if NTFS was the problem I moved all my music into the linux partiton.

I'm still getting the error.

I've tried it in other music players as well, and nothing. Its like amarok wont read a smb share.

Does the url now really read file:// instead of smb://?

Just to be sure: Can your Amarok play mp3 files at all? (locally)

Yes, MP3's do play locally.

No, the files are still reading smb://.  I tried mounting my share in linux as a cifs, and I got no errors on the mount. However, Its still reading them as smb://.

If you type 'mount' on the command line, you will see a list of mounted file systems. The one using the cifs file system type should be among them. You should navigate to the directory, where it is mounted on your computer, and use the files located there for using them in Amarok.

Here's the output I get when I try to get the mount to be CIFS:
[root@jacoblaptop jacob]# mount -t cifs //jacobdesktop/Documents /mnt/win_c/Documents\ and\ Settings/All\ Users/Documents -o guest,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777
mount error: could not find target server. TCP name jacobdesktop/Documents not found
No ip address specified and hostname not found

have you tried using the IP address instead of the name?  Your network may not be setup to do internal name resolution.  Alternatively you can add the other machine on your network to your /etc/hosts file, though I went the full route and just added an internal dns (bind) since my router wouldn't do this itself.

You might also try mounting your music on a native partition, rather than a FAT one (ie, mount it in your home directory instead of on your windows drive)
