Hello all.
I am running Amarok on Ubuntu (gnome). I would like to use xmms as the engine for Amarok. But, Amarok only sees xine. I have xmms installed, and I don't see why Amarok doesn't see it. I tried uninstalling the Amarok-xine package, but Amarok is dependent on that. I also have the Amarok-engines package installed! Any ideas? Thanks! |

There is no xmms engine for amarok. Sorry! You'll have to use either xine and amarok, or use xmms.

Oh! Well.. that explains it!!!
Ok, well what is a good lossless file format that is compatible with Xine? I wanted to use xmms because it supports .wav... but are there any the xine supports? Thanks for the reply! |

Odd... for some reason .wav files won't go into my collection. I rescan the collection... and the files don't show up. But if I just add them to a playlist... they play just fine. Just can't add them to my collection. Ideas?
Thanks. |

.wav files don't contain id3 metadata - therefore, you can only *play* them with amarok, not add them to your collection.

To suggest a loossless supported by Amarok (i.e. by taglib thus you can add it to the collection): How about flac?

Hi all! I don't understand. There is no way to play wavpack and monkey's audio with amarok?

correct. Unless taglib can read tags from those formats, it's just not happening

Actutally, Amarok now supports wavpack in the latest SVN thanks to a new taglib plugin. |

and what about monke's audio (*.ape) and true-audio (*.tta)? maybe in the future?

I do not know these formats, but feel free to write a plugin for them, there's documentation out there how to do that and I am sure the devs will help as much as they can.

ape is one of the most known opensource loseless format. look at this. i was surprised tha amarok can't play ape files. i had to convert all my ape collection into *.FLACs (btw better and faster format)
