Struggling to get mySQL back following SUSE 10.2 upgrade

I've upgraded my machine from SUSE 10.0 to 10.2.  I've always had Amarok running with mySQL, so before upgrading I backed up the database, and after upgrading I've restored it.  mySQL seems to be running fine, and I can read back the amarok database.

The first shock was that the SUSE build of Amarok no longer seems to include mySQL.  So I've built my own, with the mySQL part turned on.  The build seems to have been successful, and it runs fine.

However, I don't seem to have mySQL available in the Amarok config drop-down.  It only offers SQLite.

Is there a config file or something that needs to be reset before Amarok will recognise mySQL?

Incidentally, I've now removed and rebuilt .kde/share/apps/amarok just in case that was the problem - and I still only get SQLite available.

Alternatively, is there a way to convert the mySQL database to SQLite?

Are you sure you actually built Amarok with mysql support? During configure at some moment it states what features are actually built. Probably you also need additional packages for that, but since I use Gentoo I am not very confident with Suse. The Amarok wiki probably holds information about the whole issue.

Bye, tira.

Yes, the build claims to have included mySQL, but clearly something is lacking.  I guess there must have been something else required in the build to make it actually work.

I've tried something different now.  I've downloaded and installed the Guru RPM, over-riding the dependency clashes and installing it anyway.  It installs and runs fine.

But... now I have a collection that has albums and artists, but no tracks

I've cleared out .kde/share/apps/amarok, I've rebuilt the mySQL database, I've tried rebuilding the collection... and still it ain't listing any tracks.

I notice that there's another posting on here about the missing tracks problem, and the advice seems to be to go and search the forum.  I've done so, but can't find anything applicable.

What next?

Whoohoo... fixed it!

I changed the grouping in the Collection tab to "Artist", then changed it back to "Artist/Album" - and they've all reappeared.

For future reference, a couple of other ways you might be able to force mysql to show up as a database type in amarok (assuming it's all installed and running) are to launch amarok with "amarok --wizard" (which reruns the 'first run wizard') and/or delete/move ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc (it's an easy one to miss, as it's not in the amarok data dir).
