one mysql db more than one computer?

Sun Jan 14, 2007 10:54 pm
I've got amarok setup to mysql thats running on my mythbackend. My music is all on my mythfrontend, so I have amarok on there and have all my music scanned in from there. I'd like to be able to use this same db on my bedroom computer and my laptop, where I have the music mounted to the same location through NFS. I thought I had this working right on my laptop, but then I updated amarok on my laptop to match what I have on my mythfrontend and now it comes up with an empty playlist.

Is there a way to get my other computers to load up the same db as my mythfrontend computer so I don't have to manage the collection on all these computers?

thanks!

Check the mysql information page on the amarok wiki for some tips on doing this...

nevermind, if I exit Amarok and run it again it comes up with a blank collection. =(

so if I remove the amarokrc and point it to the mysql server it shows the collection fine, though I get an error that Amarok can't connect to MySQL on the local machine, even though I'm specificly telling it to look for mysql on another ip.

Then I quit. I place DynamicCollection=false under [Collection], and rerun Amarok and my Collection comes up blank. So I'm going to assume sharing a DB no longer works.

gah. sounds like it :(
Sorry to mislead - it's been a while since I last shared a db.

You might have better joy with postgresql - there's a howto on the amarok wiki for that as well.

I haven't actually ever tried the whole "share a database across several computers" hack, but it seems like Dynamic Collections would pretty much disallow it from happening.
