iTunes (OSX) -- Unicode already? Amarok displays name incorrectly?

I did do a search before hand in regards to the tagging issue with amarok.

From what I understand so far, Amarok only reads unicode encoded id3v2 tags correctly?

Anyways, what I'm doing is tagging my mp3s through iTunes (OS X, not Windows) and I'm converting the tags to id3v2.4

The tags of course are not showing up correctly. I did a bit of research and I think iTunes already encodes the id3v2 tags in unicode so what's the issue here?

Also, I noticed amarok displays only half of the album artwork if I setup the artwork through iTunes aswell.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that.

perl -MCPAN -e 'install MP3::Mplib' -- that doesn't really get me anywhere. I'm not familiar with perl at all. I'm not even sure if I am suppose to run the previous script in the mp3 directory?

This line installs the needed perl library, so that the actual script can work.
After that, you put the other box in a file, save it (say filename fix_mp3.pl) and then you do a
perl fix_mp3.pl
to fix a file (make a backup before that, just to be on the save side).
If this works for you, you can run this in a batch job.

I too had drastic problems with tags switching from iTunes to Amarok. I don't know if the problem is with the way that iTunes writes 2.4 tags or the way taglib reads them.

The solution I found was to convert all the tags to 2.3 within itunes. (i.e. Select all your tracks, then go to advanced-> convert id3 tags (or whatever)). Then rescan your collection with Amarok. Tags should show up correctly. In my case, artwork also showed up correctly about 95% of the time. A few embedded covers still show up corrupted in Amarok. For those albums you'll have to use an itunes-compatible utility to export the covers to the album directories & then remove the embedded covers.

That fixed almost everything.

I have noticed though that some of the years are totally incorrect. But as long as artest/song titles are correct. I'm happy

Thanks for the info.

Is there much difference between v2.3 and v2.4 specifications anyways?
