Error code 127

Sat Jan 27, 2007 4:46 pm
I just installed Amarok 1.4.4, now I get this error after the end of every track. (usr/bin/env: ruby: No such file or directory) HELP!!

btw... I'm also running KDE 3.4.2, if that info is helpful.

Obviously you need to install Ruby :) It's a dependency.

Ahhh... thanks for your help Mark. 'Cuse me... like I said, I'm a "newbie". I'm a long time Winders user, so all of this is quite foreign to me.

Oops... I'll take that back. I installed Ruby, and I'm still getting the error. Any other thoughts??

EDIT: I took a look into that directory, it had named the file 'Ruby 1.8'. So I went into administrator mode and renamed the file to 'Ruby', that seemed to work... I no longer get the error.

Thanks again Mark for the suggestion.

A better solution in the long run would be to create a symlink called 'ruby' that points to the original file. That way, anything else on your system that's looking for 'ruby.1.8' (or whatever the original is called) won't choke.

for example:
Code: Select all
ln -s /usr/bin/ruby.1.8 /usr/bin/ruby

by using the code example I showed in the post above... for more information, type
Code: Select all
man ln

Well, I tried what you suggested... but I started getting the error again. I guess I'll hafta go back and rename the file. Thanks anyway.
