Using shortcut keys while window focus is not on Amarok?

I have been using Amarok for a while now, and I really enjoy it, but I keep it minimized in the system try a lot (I use Ubuntu). However, because I keep it minimized I can't use the shortcut keys I've assigned to play/pause/stop/etc., so I have to bring Amarok back up and either press the button or just click the button in Amarok (but that sort of defeats the purpose of using shortcuts). I'm using an Inspiron 8600 running Ubuntu 6.06, I have set the keyboard layout to match my keyboard model, and the buttons I'm referring to are the multimedia buttons along the right side of the keyboard. I'd like to be able to just press the button and have Amarok do the specified action, rather than opening Amarok to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Take a look at the DCOP commands (e.g. in the Wiki) and assign DCOP commands in KHotKeys (can be found in the control center) making them global hotkeys.

Could you tell me where the wiki is? I can't seem to find it anywhere...

And what is the control center?

That's the application that you use to configure KDE. (if you cannot find it in your menu, type kcontrol in a shell to start it)

Before I even try, will I be able to do it even though I'm using GNOME with Ubuntu?

UPDATE: I can now play/pause using the button while Amarok is minimized in the system try, but I can still only use the other buttons while window focus is on Amarok.
